A woman who fired at some Uhlans near Brussels

UHLANS 
The Germans are taking 
advantage of the fact that 
numbers of Belgians have 
been transferred to the 
fighting centres, and 
parties of Uhlans have 
been riding through the 
country firing and rifling 
wherever possible. The 
woman shown in our pic- 
ture resides in a village 
ten miles east of Brussels ; 
she saw a party of Uhlans 
riding down the village 
Street in the direction of 
her house and immediately 
fired a rifle at the maraud- 
ing soldiers. The sound 
of the rifle shots caused 
the Uhlans to retire in 
great haste from that par- 
ticular village.
